How I got the Genealogy Bug:
I had always had this feeling I didn't fit in, then when I was about 9 yrs. old my parents divorced, not long after this is when I first remember finding out that this man that had raised me thus far, was not my biological father. I just had to know who was this other man? I got to meet him when I was 12, we only got to spend a couple of days together, it made me even more curious about this missing part of myself. When I was 15 I became a teen mother. After having my oldest son Robert Joe Saurer II, I just had to find out where I had come from so I could pass this on to him, so began my search on my biological lines. Then I got even more interrested in researching and started my husbands family tree when my youngest son Rhea (pronounced like Ray) Thomas Speed was born. In the last 5 years I have added over 300 names to our tree. Not all the information that I have has been added to the tree, but I am adding as time allows.
The main surnames in the family are: Rhea's fathers side;
SPEED ( main branch ), SMITH, ALLISON, HILLMAN/HILLMON, CARTER, RHEA, and PLEMONS/PLEMMONS are surnames of direct female ancestors (grandmothers, ggrandmothers, ect.).
Rhea's mothers side; WRIGHT, RUSSELL, HARRISON, GOUER, QUEEN and FRENCH.
There are many other surnames contained within this family, so even if yours is not listed above, take a look it may be here.I have lots of information on the Allison / Rhea lines that I am tring to get added. I add info. to all surnames as it becomes available.
Although I have done alot of my own research, I copied alot of my starting information from papers compiled by other family members and would like to thank them greatly. They are: A write-up done in 1982 by Wanda Christine Russell Wright on the WRIGHT and RUSSELL lines. She is my grandmother and sent me a copy in 1989. This was the start of all my research and the first information I received.
A small amount of papers received from my grandfather Ben Keith, compiled by my grandmother Alene French Gouer Keith on the FRENCH, GOUER, and KEITH lines.
A genealogy book that was compiled by Margaret Speed Newman on the SPEED and HILLMAN/HILLMON lines, that I borrowed for a short time in 1997 and copied to family group sheets.
Several booklets copied and sent to me from Cathy Smith McCoy, compiled by several family members on the SMITH, ALLISON, and RHEA lines.
I would love to hear from anybody who has information on any of these surnames. Feel free to call, write or e-mail me. I would be glad to share any of my own information.
Also please allow for human error, as other family members and I may have copied something wrong. I am tring to get some type of copy of each vital record so that I have proof of each event. I fix any mistakes I find and if you find one please let me know so I can fix it.
