| I have had great fun and satisfaction researching my family history, I have even found a couple of convicts! We have had a couple of Garvie family reunions and I have met some lovely relatives from around Australia. I am going to start to try and find some distant relatives from the Speakman and Ashton families - who are from my paternal side of the family. Would love to hear from anyone who is a descendant of John Speakman, sometimes known as Fergus. He arrived in Tasmania with his family on the "Conway" in 1855, and at some point travelled to the mainland, where he married Louisa Sharp and after her death Elizabeth Andrews. A butcher by trade he died in 1897 and is buried in Melbourne General Cemetery |
