The Spelce family ancestor arrived in America through the Port of Philadelphia in 1738 from Northern Europe. We believe he was Victor SPEITZ (or possibly SPELTZ). He settled in Eastern Pennslyvania, got married and later moved to New Jersey where at least two sons were born; Joseph Allen SPELTS and John SPELTS. As can be seen, the name has already changed. In fact, the SPELCE Surname has been spelled several different ways in the past; SPEITZ, SPELTS, SPELCE, SPELSE, SPILSE, and SPELS. Sometimes the name was spelled differently even on the same document. The geographic areas where the Spelce Surname has been recorded are; Pennslyvania (SPEITZ - early to mid 1700s), New Jersey (SPELTS - mid 1700s), Virginia (SPELTS - pre revolutionary war), North Carolina (SPELTS - revolutionary war years), South Carolina (SPELTS, SPELSE, SPELS, SPELCE - late 1700s to early 1800s), Alabama (SPELCE - mid 1800s to present), Kentucky (SPELTS - early to mid 1800s), Indiana (SPELTS - mid 1800s, Tennessee (SPELCE - mid 1800s to present), Arkansas (SPELCE - mid 1800s to present), Texas (SPELCE - mid 1800s to present), and many other states across the country. We are looking for evidence to confirm or deny the earliest locations and times as well as ties back to Europe.
