Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

With input from family members, I resurrected our family tree project in December 2002. I am creating both a family tree and a family Web site. The Web site is at www.spector.org. Many of the features of the site won't be active until the last week of December 2002 / first week of January 2003. Among other features, the site will have a bulletin board (discussion forum) and a chat room. Persons searching for family members having the surnames in our family tree can post messages on the bulletin board describing the people about whom they are doing research. The chat room can be used by people wanting to have real-time "conversations" with each other by typing messages and getting immediate typed responses.

We are researching the families of Pesach Gluckofsky (Gluck in the United States)and Rachel Schwartzberg from the Saroka area in Bessarabia (now Moldova); Benjamin Spector from Kiev, Ukraine; Morris Lentz from Kishinev, Moldova; and Bella Weinstein from the Moscow area Russia.

Rachel Schwartzberg (born in the 1880s) had eight siblings -- Abraham, Chayka, Dora, Fred, Tuba, and three others. We have a small amount of information about Abraham and Dora, but no information at all about the ithers.

Bella Weinstein (born 1900) had a great-grandfather who was a metalsmith. I have a mortar and pestle that this gentleman, my great-great-great-grandfather, created. I wish we could trace a branch of the family back to him! Bella was related to the author Irwin Shaw (born Irwin Gilbert Shamforoff). One of Bella's cousins was married to Kermit Miller, older brother of the playwright Arthur Miller. There are currently gaps in our family tree connecting Bella to her great-grandfather, Irwin Shaw, and Kermit Miller.

One of Morris Lentz's first cousins was Sophie Tucker, a vaudeville entertainer who called herself the "Last of the Red-Hot Mamas." Sophie was born Sonia Kalish. Her parents changed the family surname to Abuza when they began their emigration journey from Eastern Europe. Sonia took the stage name of Sophie Tucker after marrying Louis Tuck.

Any information that might be of help to us regarding any of our ancestors may be sent to me at "marlene_spector@hotmail.com
Thanks in advance.
