Notes for Sarah Elizabeth "Sadie" Berryhill: Sadie's daughter, Carol Frasier Upton, wrote of her mother: "Mama told the story many times of the old house they lived in when she was a little girl. The house had so many cracks in it anything could crawl in, and often did. One time she was sitting on the hearth playing and Grandma called her several times; getting no answer, she went in to check on her. When she got to the living room, Mama was very still and staring at the fireplace. When Grandma got closer she saw a snake hanging down and swaying back and forth; it had Mama hypnotized. Grandma grabbed her up, moved her away, then killed the snake. Mama started to work in the Dallas Mill when she was nine years old. She was so little she had to stand on a box to reach her work. When she got tired of working and wanted to play, she would do something to make the overseer mad and he would send her home for a few days. She would play for a while then go back to work."(Source: Gedcom received from Doug Berryhill on 13 Nov 1996.) Notes for Ollie Frasier: Ollie and Sadie moved to Skyline on Sand Mountain, where he had bought a 68 acre farm. Their daughter Annie Lora recalled that they had a pair of mean mules named Amos and Andy. Their son Bob wrote: "The old house where we lived had cracks in the floor so wide you could see the ground underneath. There was an iron stove and one fireplace. There was a well there but had gone sour so we had to walk about a block to get water from another well. In the summer it would dry up so we had to walk about five blocks down into the woods to get water from a spring. One day I went down to get milk from the spring and there was a mountain lion about half a block from me, and needless to say, I didn't get the milk. I ran back to the house as fast as I could go. We really didn't make a living on the Mountain. I guess you could say we existed. Daddy raised cotton, corn for feed and eating, and potatoes. Of course we had hogs and a milk cow. During the war you couldn't get sugar, so Daddy raised sugar cane and he would take it to the Mill to make sorghum. They would grind the corn and sorghum for half." They lived there a few years and then moved back to Huntsville, Alabama in 1945. There they both worked for Dallas Cotton Mill. (Source: Gedcom received from Doug Berryhill on 13 Nov 1996.)
