The following year was a busy one for this part of the township. Among MR. COOKS neighbors were BENJAMINE HART, in the edge of Perry Township. JOHN OGLE, HENRY SAMS, and his sons, who were married, and lived near, ANDREW and HENRY SAMS JR. and a family by the name of HOFMIRE. But little improvement had been made on their farms, and about three days a week were spent by each family in assisting to build cabins for new arrivals, or helping to roll their neighbors fields. The plan was for each one to cut timber on three or four acres, then invite all the neighbors for three or four miles around to roll the logs into piles for burning. During the work it was expected that the beneficiary would provide plenty of whiskey, and a supper when the task was finished. The logs were cut 12 to 14 feet long, and were handled with "handspikes" alone, as oxen were to slow motioned for the enthusiastic ardor of the pioneers,
State of OHIO, Richland CO:
To the president and associate judges of the Court of Common Pleas for the county aforesaid to HENRY SAMS JUNR and ABIGAIL SAMS administrators send greetings; whereas at a Court of Common Pleas holden by us on the 9th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen at the Court House in Mansfield in the county aforesaid, HENRY SAMS of said county is alleged, latley died intestate having whilst living and at the time of his death goods and chattels within this state and county by means whereof ordering and granting administration of all and singular the said goods and chattels and also the auditing allowing and final adjusting the accounts whereof doth apportion to us and we being desirous that the goods and chattels of the deceased may be well and truly administered applied and disposed of do grant unto you the said HENRY SAMS and ABIGAIL SAMS full power by those present to administer and faithfully dispose of all and singular the goods and chattels to ask demand and receive the debt which unto the said deceased whilst living and at the time of his death did belong and to pay the debts the said deceased did owe, so far as goods and chattels will thereto extend and the law require hereby requiring you by advertisement insert and continue for four weeks successively in one of the public newspapers printed in this state to notify the creditors of the said estate to exhibit these accounts legally proven within one year or to make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and chattels of the said deceased and shall be appraised and signed by JOHN SANBUSHICK, JOHN LINGING and JOHN COOK--freeholders under oath or affirmation and also a true and accurate statement of the debts due and owing said estate so far as they come to your hands possession or knowledge and the same so made to return or cause to be returned to the Clerks Office of our said county within within three months and also shall adjust and settle up the accounts in our Clerks Office within twelve months unless further time be allowed and we do by these present dispute constitute and appoint you the said HENRY SAMS JUNR. and ABIGAIL SAMS, the administrators of all and singular the goods and chattels which were of HENRY SAMS late of the said county deceased--
In testimony whereof we on the same day and year aforesaid at Mansfield cause the seal of our said Court to be hereunto affixed and ordered by these presents to be attested.

In witness thereof I WINN WINSHIP Clerk of said Court have hereunto affixed the seal of our said Court and set my hand this eighteenth day of Feby. in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen of the Independence of the United States of America the Forty second.
