I am not sure whether I am descended from the Spielmans who play the Scottish game of Curling and for which the members of the team are called "Spielmans"; or of the German Hessians Konrad, Peter and David Lorentz Spielmann; or the Dutch "Speelmans" who are cheesemakers in Harleem, Holland, particulary the present day Baron Corneilius Speelman; or the Irish "Spelmans", such as, Sir Henry Spelman whose son Henry was the first to marry Pocohontas; or the Swiss "Spielmanns"; or the Alsae-Loraine "Spillmann; or any of the 42 Spielmans who immigrated to America. Since I cannot find the parents names or a trace of them for my 3GGrandfather, Peter Spielman, Sr., I suspect that Peter Sr. was the descendant of a Hessian soldier. Peter Sr., by the way, was a philander, I think. Peter Spielman, Sr., my 3GGrandfather farmed 10,000 acres close to Stotler's Crossroads near Berkeley Springs, WV. 50 miles away near Cumberland, MD, Peter Speelman lived on a farm and died on July 6, 1870, and was buried in the graveyard of the Old Stone Reformed Church in Boonsboro, MD, where Peter Sr. was born, supposedly, on August 11, 1783, and died on July 6, 1790, and was buried in the graveyard of the Old Stone Reformed Church in Boonsboro on July 6, 1790. I don't believe in coincidences. Peter Spielmann in Fredericksburg, VA, was born on August 11, 1783. Again, I don't believe in coincidences! As a result, I believe these three Peters were one and the same and that my 3GGrandfather was a philander with three families located in Stotler's Crossroads, WV; Allegheny County, MD; and Fredericksburg, VA, respectively. |
