* Sponseller, Haynam & Related Families*

Updated March 2, 2004

Hans Filipp Spansailer came to America from Germany in 1732. The Sponsellers migrated to Ohio from eastern Pennsylvania in 1802. Large numbers of Sponseller descendants live in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, and the surname has been found as far away as Australia.

Thomas Haynam settled in Stark County, Ohio, in 1788. Of either Irish or English descent, he probably came from Maryland. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have information taking this line further back.

I would welcome hearing from anyone descended through these two families.

I am researching the following primary names related to these families: Dotterer, Reiff, Lehman, Mast, Ruhl, Fischer, Slack, Mong, Holmes, Vandergrift, Kleitz, as well as Edwards, Clark, Rennicker, Scott, Leggett and Smittley from the Harrison County, Ohio, area.
