My research of the Spore family is a work in progress and is being done in collaboration with my Aunt, Rose Margaret Spore Zach.

Much of our information about the early Spoor ancestors comes from a book, "The Spoor Family In America" written by Marie Underwood and published in 1901. In Underwood the presumed decent of our branch of the Spoor family is: Jan Wybesse Spoor, Johannes Spoor, Hendrick Spoor, Jerome(Hieronymus)Spoor, to Jacob Spoor. Underwood has Jacob baptized June 30, 1788 in Schodack New York; but has no further information on him.

In tracing our line backward in time from my Grandfather, Guy William Spore, we find my Great Grandfather James D. Spore, my second Great Grandfather, William Spore, and my third Great Grandfather, Jacob Spoor. We have an abstract of an obituary notice for Jacob Spoor that states he was born in New York State in 1788 and died in Rising Sun Indiana in 1849.

There is reason to believe that our Jacob Spoor is the same Jacob Spoor listed in the Underwood book as the son of Jerome Spoor, and several researchers of the Spoor line claim this. However, to date I have not been able to obtain solid documnetaion of that fact from anyone. Therefore, additional research is needed, and underway, to establish that the two Jacobs mentioned are the same person.
