292. Thomas Perry, May 2005, Town records list Elkanah as the son of Benjamin Howland III and Lucy Chase. However, Benjamin was born in 1780, making him only 15 when Elkanah was born. Thomas Perry believes that Benjamin was probably Rosanna's brother, and therefore, Elkanah's uncle. Benjamin was probably listed as Elkanah's father because of the stigmatism that could have resulted from his being 1/2 Native American.
293. Thomas Perry, May 2005, Elkanah was apparently quite musical. He had a piano in his home, and he also played the violin.

304. Thomas Perry, May 2005, Nehemiah, probably the adopted son of Benjamin Howland Jr. and Lydia Baker, was born in or near Plymouth about 1773. He was full blooded Wampanoag. The story goes that his Native American parents were traveling to the Cape for shellfish, as was their custom every year. Nehemiah became very ill, and was left at the Howlands home to be cared for while his parents were away. For some reason, however, his parents never returned for him, and he was raised by the Howlands. He apparently married his adopted sister, Rosanna Howland. There is no evidence that Nehemiah and Rosanna had more than one child.

RootsWeb.com- My Genealogy Adventure w/ names such as Shaw, Hayman, Kenny, Kinney, Lettney and Redden, RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Sabin Family of North America says:CHRISTENING: NEHGR 82:205. According to Peter Crowell of Argyle, the only documents which exist today that furnish proof of Jeremiah Sabin's brief stay in Argyle comes from references to deeds. In Deed Book 2 [pg 86] found in Queens County Registr y of Deeds at Liverpool, NS one finds that on 13 Sep 1774, George Coffin, at that time of Nantucket, sold to Jonathan Crowell of Argyle land and meadow "purchased of Jeremiah Sabins." This document is most interesting in that it establishes the fa ct that Jeremiah Sabin lived at least briefly in that part of Argyle known as Argyle Head. No land grants were made in Argyle until 1771 therefore Jeremiah Sabin could not have had true legal title to the land he sold to George Coffin. What he pro bably sold to Mr Coffin was a log cabin. In 1771 George Coffin received a grant to this land. As late as 1793 [See Yarmouth Co Deed Book B, pg 162] a creek running thru this land was referred to as "Seabine's Creek," now Crowell's Creek. In the su mmer of 1765, Jeremiah sailed up the coast to the head of St Mary's Bay (from Argyle, Yarmouth Co, where he arrived in 1762), building a shanty there. In 1766, he crossed the Sissiboo River and settled on Lot 17, Division R. He also cleared lan d on part of Lot 18. The land he had settled on had already been granted to others on 21 Nov 1765. He finally settled on granted Lot 80 at Dunbar Lake. He built a house and a fish house on Lot 17 of 100 acres which he later sold to his son-in-law , Nathan Savary Jr. In 1801 Jeremiah accompanied his son Jeremiah to Port Lorne. Jeremiah is considered one of the six founders of Weymouth. Port Lorne, where he died is often referred to as Wilmot Mountain. The Hatfield Grant of Digby Twp date d 29 Jan 1801 shows Evan Powell, Jeremiah Sabean, Abraham Brooks, David Grant, David Shook, John Grant, the heirs of Sarah Grant and Benjamin & Willoughby Sabean. 453. RootsWeb.com- The Sabin Family of North America, William Sabin, the miller of Rehoboth, MA, is the immigrant ancestor and progenitor of the S abin family in America and Canada. He is often referred to as the patriarch of the family si nce he married twice and fathered twenty children. In the three hundred and fifty years that have passed since the first record of William Sabin in MA some 10,000 Sabin descendants have populated the United States.William Sabin was born in Titchfield, Hampshire, England. His baptism is recorded in St. Peter's Parish, Titchfield, England: 'Oct 1609 bapt. William Sabin, the XI daye.' The parent s of William Sabin are not listed in the baptismal record as was the custom of the time. It is believed that William was the son of Richard Sabin and Mary (Bushe) Sabin who were married 29 October 1608. Richard was buried 1 June 1641 and Mary was buried 14 October 1644 (Extra cts from the Parish Register of St. Peter, Titchfield). The IGI has William Sabin as the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Sabin bc 1615, Titchfield, Hamp shire, England. Lillian Swihart, a subscriber to the Sabin/Sabine/Sabean Genealogical Newsle tter offers the point of view that this information might be correct since the first two children of William were named Samuel and Elizabeth and that William failed to name any of his ch ildren Richard which was the name of both his father and father-in-law (SFN: Vol. IX, no. 4).From the family of a later Sabine immigrant we read: "The Sabine family can be traced back as far as 1600 AD. The first we find of them is in the County of Hampshire (Hants) England, at Titchfield and towns near thereto. They were Puritans and Nonconformists of early date and glorious memory." (Sabine, John Dickinson. The Family and Descendants of Rev. James Sabine . Washington, DC, 1904. John Sabine was an immigrant from England to America in the early 17 00s and not a descendant of William Sabin.)William Sabin arrived in America sometime before 1642 when he is first recorded in conjuncti on with the or.
