I am researching the ancestors of Ed Spruce (My Grandfather). Ed was born in Kirbyville, Mo. Oct 27, 1910. to S. Jack Spruce and Lenora (Nora) Whorton. I am searching the Surnames of SPRUCE; WHORTON; CUTBIRTH; BOONE; ROBERSON; BOLINGER; MALONE; and others to mention later. I will add more information to this home page later when I get time. Things I will include is a breakdown of Ed's ancestors, Then I will work on Ed's descendants. if there is anything that you would like to share, please contact me, and if you have information that I could use I will post it on this home page. Ed Spruce married Dorothy Lorena Payton. THE PATERNAL SIDE OF ED SPRUCE; S. Jack Spruce was the son of William Anderson Spruce and Debby Ann Roberson. Jack as he was known as, was born on September 11, 1865 in Stonefort, Ill. as of the 1880 Williamson County, Ill. Census, Jack had 2 brothers Geoerge and John, and a sister Margaret. John was the youngest child, while George was the oldest, followed by Jack and then Margaret.Jack's Father was born about 1838, and his mother was born about 1840. It is believed that they both were from the State of Kentucky before moving to Illinois. There also is another Spruce family listed in the same Census Listing as stated above, but unsure of the connection. That head of household is listed as Carter C. Spruce with wife Mandy, and children Molly, Charley, John D., and Edgar. I am not sure but it is possible that William and Carter are brothers, and these two are listed next to each other in the 1880 Williamson County, Ill. Census, and I was told that it is listed in the order of there residence, So they were probably neighbor's. I dont Know anything on Jack's mother yet, but I hope that someone out there can help me with any information one her. Her last name could be Robertson or Roberson. Jack died Feb 01, 1942.he is buried at the Gobbler's Knob Cemetery near Branson, Mo. Lenora (Nora) Whorton was the second wife of Jack Spruce. Nora was the daughter of Jeptha Whorton and Martha A. Cutbirth. Nora was born Feb 20, 1889 in Kirbyville, Mo. and died March 05, 1916. She is buried at the Whorton Cemetery near Branson, Mo. the children of Jack and Nora Spruce are; Delcie Alcie Bertha * Edward Alomus EllenNora's paternal side of her family are talked about in the Fallen Leaves Vol. 1 By Vicky Lee Cobb. Just learned recently that Martha Cutbirth is a direct descendant of Sarah (Boone) Wilcoxson. (the daugther of Squire Boone and the sister of the legendary Daniel Boone).
