The Sprosen family originated in England and the earliest records are around 1700s. Some early records show variants of the spelling such as Sprawson and Sprosan. The family lived in the village of Fulmer outside London during the 1800s and my ancestor, Henry, emigrated to New Zealand in 1860 to seek gold. The are several generations of the family in NZ but few appear to remain in England or elsewhere. My mother's family were Bennetts from Cornwall. They too came in the gold-rush era. I would be interested to hear from anyone with information on these families. |
