I have been researching my family tree for a while now and I have uncovered 13 generations. I am a direct descendant of Richard Merrell who brought his wife Susannah from Warwickshire, England to America in the mid 1600's.
In the 1760's, and in the fourth generation of Merrell's in America, Captain Benjamin Merrell helped found the Militia of Regulators who fought in the Battle of Alamance Creek, in North Carolina. For his role in the militia, Captain Benjamin Merrell was hung, disemboweled, beheaded, and quartered.

Benjamin Merrell's grandson, Amos Merrell, Sr., brought his wife, Frances Coats, to Shelby County, Alabama. Amos Merrell, Sr., is known (it is inscribed on his grave marker) as the "Pioneer Founder of the Merrell Family" in Alabama.

Amos Merrell, Sr., is my great-great-great-great grandfather. My research at this point is focusing on these four generations. Amos Merrell had a son named Wiley B. Merrell; who had a son named Charles Allen Merrell; who had a son named James Monroe Merrell; who had a son Owen Edison Merrell; who had my father Louis Merrell.

I would love any information on anyone from Amos Sr., through James Monroe Merrell. I have information to offer as well. All inquiries and information are welcome. I have found one "cousin" who lives in Ohio, and I think it would be fun to find more "cousins."
