SIR ROWLAND16 STANLEY (WILLIAM15, WILLIAM14, WILLIAM13, WILLIAM12, WILLIAM11, WILLIAM10, WILLIAM9 DE STANLEIGH, WILLIAM8, WILLIAM7, JOHN6, WILLIAM5, WALTER4, WILLIAM3, ADAM2, LYDULPH (LIULF)1 DE ALDITHLEY) was born 1518 in Hooton, Cheshire, England, and died 1613 in Hooton, Cheshire, England. He married MARGARET BUNBURY ALDERSEY, daughter of HUGH ALDERSEY. She was born in Chester, England.

Notes for SIR ROWLAND STANLEY:
Knighted in 1533 and made Sheriff of Chester in 1575 and Justice of the Peace.

As a staunch Catholic, Sir Rowland was the first of his family to be confronted by the cruel dilemma which Queen Elizabeth's church policy forced on her otherwise loyal subjects. A new Act of Uniformity made it high treason to recognize the Pope's authority, and required an oath acknowledging the Queen as head of the Church.

SIR FERDINAND16 STANLEY (HENRY15, EDWARD14, THOMAS13, GEORGE12, THOMAS11, THOMAS10, JOHN9, JOHN8 DE STANLEY, WILLIAM7 DE STANLEIGH, JOHN6, WILLIAM5, WALTER4, WILLIAM3, ADAM2, LYDULPH (LIULF)1 DE ALDITHLEY) was born 1559, and died May 28, 1594. He married ALICE SPENCER, daughter of JOHN SPENCER.

He married ELIZABETH VERE June 26, 1594 in Royal Palace of Greenwich, daughter of EDWARD VERE. She died March 10, 1641/42.

Notes for SIR WILLIAM STANLEY:
Upon the death of his brother Ferdinand who had no male heir, William became the 6th Earl of Derby.

In 1592, he became the Governor of the Isle of Man.

During the marriage the play "Midsummers's Night Dream" was performed for the first time.

Much speculation has it that William Stanley was the playwright, William Shakespeare.

Notes for ROBERT STANLEY:
Served as Captain in King William's Army (under Brigadier-General James Stanley (1664-1736) who succeeded as 10th Earl of Derby in 1702). Robert fought in the Battle of the Boyne on July 1, 1690, and at Athlone Castle in 1691.
