E of the 12th South Carolina Regiment was known as the Blair Guards. Thirty-one in this group were killed, 20 died of disease, including Pvt. Todd, and 29 were wounded. One record indicates that Pvt. Todd appears on an undated list of of wounded at Gen. Kershaw’s Brigade Infirmary and that June 29, 1862, he was healed and sent on to Richmond. Perhaps the enlistment date* is a re-enlistment after this episode. If so, his renewed service did not last long. He was arrested Aug. 7, 1863, on unspecified charges and was sent to Richmond Sept. 2 to stand trial. The records do not indicate whether the trial ever took place. He died in Richmond, with the cause of death given as Febris Typhoides in one record and Phthisis Pulmonatis (consumption) in another. His effects, sundries valued at $63, were turned over to Maj.
