?PCC (Stag) to DC (Ral) 15 Apr 1848: "On my arriveal at Home on yesterday I found the HouseHold quite well--I wish I could say the same of the balck family--Luke & Jim here are both looking very badly.--and I find Peter at Stagville no better--the liklihood is that he must die--Hicks cant be had to see our sick--Anne asks me to write that she may get for Jim and Luke at the earliest day a supply of the Arromatic Barks--which Jim has used with much benefit & for which he now suffers--..."
Anne Cameron (Ral) to PCC (Fairn) 30 Jan [1849?] by Squire: "Will you please as soon as the ground is in order, have me a square of peas sownd. Tell Jim not to sow them in a lazy-bed and to sow only one row in a place, and sow that thick, tell him not to plant Irish potatoes too soon--he will find the peas masked by a paper in the top of the bag--"
