Descendants of Edward Perkins

Generation No. 1

1. EDWARD1 PERKINS was born Abt. 1795 in unknown, and died Unknown. He married MARGARET ? Bef. 1820 in unk. She was born Abt. 1800 in North Carolina, and died Unknown in unknown.

Notes for E
DWARD PERKINS:
It is not certain that Edward Perkins is the husband of Margaret Perkins or that either of them is the parent of George Washington Perkins. Strong circumstantial evidence; however, ties them all together.
The 1850 census has Margaret Perkins as Head of household, with a large family who's ages and initials correspond so closely with names and ages of Perkins family members who all lived very close together in Randolph Co. Arkansas. One exception is Cornelius Perkins who settled in Dunklin Co. Missouri, adjacent to Randolph Co. Arkansas and directly across the Mississippi River from Dyer Co. Tennessee. Also George W. Perkins, now married to Elizabeth Herron lived only a short distance from Margaret in Dyer.
The 1840 Dyer Co. census has Edward Perkins living next door to a family by the name of Crow. The family members were not named in 1840 census except for head of household, but ages for males and females matched the ages for 1850 census. Margaret's household in 1850 was also next to a family named Crow.
It is my strong belief that these families are the same, and they are the parents and siblings of George Washington Perkins.

DWARD PERKINS and MARGARET ?:
Marriage: Bef. 1820, unk

Children of E
DWARD PERKINS and MARGARET ? are:
  i.   UNK MALE2 PERKINS, b. Abt. 1820; d. Unknown.
  ii.   UNK FEMALE PERKINS, b. Bet. 1821 - 1825; d. Unknown.
  iii.   UNK MALE PERKINS, b. Bet. 1821 - 1825; d. Unknown.
  Notes for UNK MALE PERKINS:
One of the two unknown Perkins males is undoubtedly T.J. Perkins who was buried with George Washington Perkins at Confederate Soldiers Rest Cemetery at Memphis. They were both recruited in the Randolph County area and were in the same infantry regiment, but were in different companys.

2. iv.   GEORGE WASHINGTON PERKINS, b. 1825, Tennessee; d. November 1861, Tennessee.
  v.   N.J. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1828; d. Unknown.
  Notes for N.J. PERKINS:
I have been unable to find any more information about N.J. Perkins. Might have been a visiting relative, but she probably married shortly after the 1850 census and went to live with her husband.

vi.   WM. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1829; d. Unknown.
  Notes for WM. PERKINS:
I am unable to identify Wm. Perkins. The only information available is 1850 census in Margaret's family. The entry is hard to read. The initials might be Wm. , but they look more like Mn. Appears to be a contraction of the first name.

vii.   ELISHA PERKINS, b. Abt. 1830; d. Unknown.
  Notes for ELISHA PERKINS:
20 year old Elisha Perkins lived in Obion County Tennessee in 1850, next door to Jonathan King. Jonathan King was the Justice of the Peace who married George Washington Perkins and Elizabeth Herron. Also in the house with Elisha was Elizabeth King, Jonathan's 62 year old mother. Both appeared to be boarders. The house was owned by Soloman Wright. Soloman was probably married to Jonathan's sister.

  viii.   E. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1832; d. Unknown.
  Notes for E. PERKINS:
I believe E. Perkins might be Jacob E. Perkins. In 1860 Jacob Perkins lived in Randolph Co. Arkansas , near G.W. and Jesse. The initial E. might be from his father, Edward. This is only speculation.

ix.   CORNELIUS PERKINS, b. Abt. 1833; d. Unknown.
  Notes for CORNELIUS PERKINS:
Cornelius was living in Dunklin County Missouri in 1860 with a fifteen year old female whose name was hard to read on the census sheet. The name could have been Marthey. There was also a five month old female child with them. At the same time , in Randolph County Arkansas, Sarah Perkins, age 25, lived next door to George Washington Perkins. Sarah was head of household and had one year old William H. Perkins with her. William's place of birth was Missouri. I have inferred, maybe incorrectly, that Sarah was Cornelius' first wife and that there was a divorce or some related incident between them.

3. x.   JESSE CARROL PERKINS, b. Abt. 1835, Dyer County, Tennessee; d. Unknown.
  xi.   G.H. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1838; d. Unknown.
  Notes for G.H. PERKINS:
To date I have found no credible information to match G.H. Perkins that would identify him as George Washington Perkins brother.

  xii.   PETER C. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1840; d. Unknown.
  Notes for PETER C. PERKINS:
Peter C. Perkins was 19 years old in 1860 Randolph Co., Arkansas census. This matches closely with P.C. Perkins, age 10 in 1850 Dyer Co., Tennessee census. Living with Peter in 1860 in Randolph was Margaret A. Perkins , age 63 born in N. Carolina. This information about Margaret seems to be a fairly close match, except the age should be about 60.

  xiii.   S. D. PERKINS, b. Abt. 1845; d. Unknown.
  Notes for S. D. PERKINS:
I am unable to find any other information about S.D. Perkins: Only 1850 Dyer census. S.D. was 5 years old and was not present with Margaret in Randolph Co. 10 years later. It is possible that he was a relative and went home or died prior to 1860 census. It is also possible that he was the son of N.J. Perkins age who was present in Margaret's household. Margaret would have been 45 years old when he was born. 150 years ago giving birth at age 45 was extremely unusual.
