The following is from a photocopy of a newspaper clipping in LeRoy Keefer's book, "Our Ancestors, Our Relatives, and Ourselves," Revised August 1961, page 6c. Family Historian, LeRoy Keefer (1886-1964), was the great great grandson of Martin, Sr.: "An Old Time Record--Interesting Document Found Among Effects of Late Peter J. Criste. Some very old and interesting papers pertaining to the early settlers of this vicinity were found among the effects of the late Peter J. Criste recently. Among them was a notice of the death of Martin Keffer, as follows: Died. Near Milton, on the 13th of February, 1815, Mr. Martin Keffer........on the Susquehanna." This article then continues without interruption, introduction, or explanation to give the following obituary of this (great grandson) Martin L. Keffer (1830-1914): "The late Martin Keffer died at his home in East Buffalo township. Father of 12 children, grandfather of forty-two and great grandfather of five. Mr. Keefer was aged 83 years, 8 months and 4 days. Death was due to cancer of the hand, from which he had been suffering for the past three years. Mr. Keefer was born and reared in White Deer township and when 19 years of age became a member of the United Evangelical church. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Martin, Howard, Simon and Merrill, of Milton, James of Lewisburg; Thomas, William and George, of Pottsgrove; Wallace, of New Columbia; Mrs. Albright Hoch, of New Berlin; Mrs. Elmer Becker, of Lewisburg, and Mrs. Harrison Yocum, of Milton. Forty-two grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive. The present united ages of these children amount to 516 years. The late Keefers have departed the tomb and it is hoped they will rest in peace--at the final resurrection, rise triumphant and be carried to the bosom of the Saints above. St. John 11:25-26, "Jesus saith unto him: I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
