Maria Eve "Mary" Cherry (daughter of Cherry and <Unnamed>) was born 15 Dec 1795 in Probably Northumberland Co., PA, and died 21 Nov 1862 in Probably White Deer Twp., Union Co., PA. She married James Keffer on Abt. 1815, son of Martin Keffer, Jr. and Mary.

Beer's "Commemorative Biographical Record," pages 901-3 states that she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She and her husband were buried at St. John's Evangelical Church cemetery (a sign at the cemetery calls it "Churchill Cemetery," established Aug. 19, 1867). The closest Methodist Church to the "Old Homestead" is the Sunrise Methodist Church (about 1 1/2 miles away, which was not built till 1908. Area families involved with its founding were Bowersox, Hartman, binder, Uplinger, Spitler, Wirth, and Rein. The only Methodist Episcopal church today in 2002 is in Milton and is listed as St. Paul's African Methodist Episcopal Church at Willow & High St. There is a United Methodist church is located in New Columbia and in White Deer.

Her family is probably connected to the Lorenzo D. Cherry family in Floyd's "Northumberland Co., PA" history, 1911, page 637. There are a number of similiarities point to this:
Lorenzo D. Cherry and his father Alba B. Cherry were both in the butcher business like Mary Cherry Keefer's uncle Charles who moved to New York. Alba B. Cherry and wife were active members of the Methodist faith like Mary Cherry Keefer.
