Notes for STROTHER V. FLOWERS:

Information presented here for the FLOWERS family was provided by Edie Ann Brand.  She related the following:

"Ada Flowers was my grandmother's sister.  My grandmother was Savannah Estelle Flowers who married James Richardson Brand.  My father, Carlton was born and grew up in

the Stone Mountain area.  We all now live in Texas.  Edie Ann Brand's email address is EdieAnn@aol.com.

I have heard of the Brand Banking Company and my brother who now lives in Snellville has told me of all the businesses with Brand in the name.  I look forward to getting to see some of these places on my trip.  I believe it was a 1st cousin, 4 times removed who originally started the Brand Banking

Company.  Most of the Brands in Georgia are related.  All going back to a Revolutionary War Veteran, William Warren Brand.  He originally settled in Loganville and Brands spread throughout Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. My uncle and lots of cousins still live in and around Lawrenceville and

Snellville.  I have been pretty fortunate at tracking this branch of my family tree. I will attach my report of Flowers information that I have so far since Raymond Flowers was your uncle.  In 1999, Ann Flowers, Marie's younger sister and another cousin, Catherine Rutledge (d/o of Alma Flowers and Lucius Rutledge) came to Houston and surprised us with a visit.  My dad was really close to all of his cousins growing up and we all enjoyed a nice visit.  I never knew my grandmother, Savannah Flowers Brand, but I did know several of her sisters pretty well."

Notes provided bu Edie Brand:

STROTHER V. FLOWERS

page 86 of the book, The James Flowers Family 1808-1986, compiled and published by Grace G. and Fred Allen Flowers.

Strother V. Flowers was listed on the 1850 DeKalb County Census as a farmer born in South Carolina.  His age was listed as 21 and his wife, Caroline Inge, was 23.  They had one child, Sara P. who was six months old.  Daniel Fones was listed in this household, he was 86 and born in North Carolina (believed to be a Revolutionary War veteran).  Caroline Flowers' father, was Charles Inge and is buried in Camp Creek Church in Gwinnett County.

Land records show he settled next to John Y. Flowers in the Browning district of DeKalb County. (Possibly related).  Military records show he served in the Confederate States Army in Company F, 36 Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry.

In 1982, Truman C. Flowers of College Park listed his grandfather, Strother V. Flowers, sons: Francis Orville, Jesse, Charlie and Jim Bob. Daughters were Sara P., one who married a Phillips and one who married a Thompson.  (Truman was 84 years old at this time.  He died April 5, 1984).

Truman Flowers said, Charles Flowers had three sons:  Moses, Taylor and Everett.  Jesse Flowers was the father of Emory Flowers of Lilburn. Charles Flowers' sons lived in Stone Mountain.  Jim Flowers' son, Raymond lives at Stone Mountain.

Truman Flowers had three brothers, C. Lloyd, Walter D. and C.E. Flowers, and a sister Illa Gulledge.  His father was Francis Orville Flowers.  His mother was Sarah Lassifine Nash, daughter of Joseph A. Nash, of Gwinnett County.  His parents are buried at Camp Creek Church Cemetery.  Orville was born in 1860 and died in 1946.

C. Lloyd Flowers of Lilburn stated in 1982 that he was born in 1902 in the same log house that his mother had been born in, in 1861.  He still lives within sight of his old homeplace on Camp Creek Road with his wife, Clara Mae Flowers.  They have eight children, many are still living in the Lilburn area.  He remembers the large cotton plantations and the destruction done by the boll weevil in the 1920's.  He also stated he believed his grandfather, Strother V. Flowers, was killed in the Civil War in Virginia or Kentucky.
