A little background will help. A great-aunt told me that the family Bible which she did not have said John Daniel's father was Gilbert and his mother's name was Ferdonia. I have not found a Gilbert however I did find Garry and Lavinia Stanley listed with their children one of which was Uriah Guilford and another was John Elbert. Both names are close but not exact. John Daniel's father died young, according to great-aunt Vider and Ferdonia remarried James W. Watson. I found John Daniel listed with his mother Dona and James in the 1880 census. Later census records show John Daniel and family (before and after living near A.W. Stanley (who I believe is the son of David Stanley not Garry) and others in the Sandy Creek area of Holmes county Florida) I share all of this because if John Daniel is indeed the son of either one of Garry's sons then that takes me back to Fayette, GA where Garry was married to Lavinia Pelham. Garry is believed to be the son of Jacob Stanley who came to Fayette County, GA after the War of 1812 from Sampson Co. North Carolina.
