There are also succeeding generations bearing the name. However, no spouses or residence matches the compiled tree provided by Smith and other descendants. Cardwell's documentation refutes the connection of Moses b. 1736 to William & Judith Stanley.

Major, apparently well educated for his day, taught school, organized a school system for Walton Co. (now Holmes Co.) and became its first superintendent. After hurricanes wiped them out two years in a row, the Stanlys, the Turners and the Williamses (Martha & Wesley) moved together in 1860, planning on going to Texas. They stopped in Rapides Parish (which later became Vernon Parish), near Leesville, when one of the children got sick.
Clerk of the Vernon Parish Police Jury from 1890-1893. Treasurer of the Vernon Parish Police Jury from 1894-1900. Treasurer of the Vernon Parish School Board in 1871. Clerk of the Vernon Baptist Association from 1872-1903.
