Notes for Henry Smith STANLEY: The following information was furnished by Henry's daughter, Frances, in the following letter:
"I'm the fourth issue of Henry Smith and Snowie Frances Mahaffey Stanley. That accounts for my given name (Henry Frances) . Except for the time I worked for the Treasury Department - July 1941 through April 1943 - in Washington and Chicago, I have lived in Florida.
In May 1943 1 transferred home to Miami and worked for the Office of Censorship until the close of the War. I met John that summer at a dance given for the sailors at Opa Locka Air Field. We were married in 1944. In January 1945 he was transferred to Hawaii for nine months. After he returned home, he went back to work for First National bank in Miami. He left the bank for an accounting position with the Chamber of Commerce for five years. John then went to work for the Village of Miami Shores as a finance office for seventeen years. He retired as Village Manager in 1975.
About fifteen years ago we bought our five-sided lot (one side borders an orange grove) on Lake Henry. We had our house built and moved up here about ten years ago.
Our daughter, Janet, moved up the next year and now resides in Sebring, Florida. She worked for the Post Office about five years. Then she returned to school at South Florida Community College. Now she and her son, James attend classes there. She has been working at Shearrson-Lehman, but will quit to put her efforts in school and keeping house.
The last time I saw Uncle Robert was in 1938, the year I graduated. Cousin Burl and Mom worked for the Stanley Cash Store in Miami."
Henry Smith Stanley was born August 6, 1887 and died February 9, 1944. He married in 1879 to Snowie Frances Mahaffey. Snowie was born December 2, 1886 at 6:00 AM. She died June 17, 1954. They are both buried at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Miami. Snowie was the seventh child of James Henry Mahaffey and Louisa Jane Willis. Henry Mahaffey was born in Jackson County and Louisa was born in Banks County.
Snowie Mahaffey was issued a Georgia Teacher's License for second grade in Gwinnett County in 1908. Henry and Snowie moved to Miami in January 1921.

Legal name change to Stephen Michael Stanley
Frances was born with Maude Stanley Keen, Florida Nurse, in attendance. Frances graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1938. Children: Janet Louise b. 8/29/1947 Miami, Florida. married in July 1967 Mark Colby b. 4/19/1949 Children: James Ira b. 2/17/1968 Miami, Florida
