Two Brownlee families landed in Charleston in 1768 from a Brig Lord Dangonnon, Captain Robert Montgomery, from Ireland. They may have spent several years in Northern Ireland before migrating to Charleston, SC. Both John and James Brownlee were born in Scotland. Both died in Abbeville, SC. These families were probably from Torfoot, Lanarkshire, Scotland where the name Brownlee foes back to 1550. See Torfoot Brownlees.
