"Youst, Yost, Felton"The old world origin of the "Youst" Family is in southern Germany, and is associated in this country with our Colonial History, being of the Teutonic branch of the great Slavano-Germanic race.Members of this family left the fatherland in the early part of the seventeenth Century.John Youst, is the earliest ancester of which I have definite information. He emigrated from Bavaria, Germany in the year 1773 and landed in New York City.Hired out at manual labor for one year he paid his ship passage to the colonies, as was the custom of that day.He married Catherine Snuiche of Holland and English parentage, who came to this country about the same time. John and Catherine had eight children:John Jr., Peter, Margaret, William, Jacob, Henry, David and Aaron. From these ancestors come my family tree with a database of now nearly 12,000 names. My research has led me to another surname which is "Felton".The area I am most interested in finding information is in West Virginia and starting with a William Elwood Felton born about 1880.Any information would be greatly appreciated.I would be happy to share any information that I might have. Please contact me by E-mail if you would like further information or if you would like to share your information. Thanks and best wishes! |
