Notes for JOHN THOMAS VANDIGRIFF:
John Thomas Vandigriff joined the 41st Georgia Voluntary Infantry Regiment in early 1862 and trained at Camp McDonald, which was originally located immediately west of Big Shanty, Ga. (Now the town of Kenesaw). Camp McDonald was one the main Confederate basic training camps in Georgia. It normally had about 10,000 troops in training at any given time. He was posted to the Western theater of operations. He fought at the Battle of Perryville, Ky. (1862) and was in the thick of the fight. He was killed, or died, sometime in 1863, most likely in Mississippi. His unit, the 41st., was one of the units captured during the Siege of Vicksburg, Miss.
