Notes from book: "Genealogy: Wm. Wilkins, Sr." by Sanders Newton Wilkins

Married S.M. Jones May 2, 1841 at Eufaula, AL by Zadock
Daniels, Esq., witnesses: Jacob Odom and Malinda Odom. Served in Civil
War with Co "G"/23rd Alabama

Sold 160 acres of farm land in Choctaw Co, AL for $59.50 in silver and
moved entire family to Panola County, MS

Between the years 1874 and 1877 entire family migrated to Oregon.
Fourth son of William Wilkins, Sr. and Catherine Weldon Wilkins

Henry Levi Wilkins was born in Barbour County, Alabama on April 27, 1821. His boyhood days were much the same as those of the others of the same station in life, his father being a "woodsman", it was most natural that his sons should follow the footsteps of him, but in some respects, this course was not followed.

'Henry" as he was called when a boy, was a very perfect type of his mother - having black hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion, but in stature he was a fine type of his father and his family - his hair was black as a raven, and as curly as ever seen, and at his death - 82 years - his hair was not gray.

Henry Levi, of Barbour County, Alabama, and Miss S. M. Jones, of Barbour County, Alabama, were married on 5/2/1841, at Eufaula, Alabama, by Zadock Daniels, Esq. Witnesses: Jacob Odom, Malinda Odom.

The failure to sow a crop of wild oats and the expense of harvesting them was saved in early life by his marriage as above related and the necessity for continuous labor kept both body and mind employed and the strenuous life of both mother and father for the first ten years - will be passed over, and we will take up his activities when he began the construction of a mill for general custom service - both grist and saw mill - on the Gratham Creek, which was located about five miles from Eufaula, Alabama. The writer of this history, Sanders Newton Wilkins - was born just a short quarter from this old mill site on Nov. 4, 1851

Notes for W
ELDON WILKINS:
Weldon - 7th son of William Wilkins, Sr.
"Dock" he was called. The last reliable account of Weldon and his family was in 1876, when with bag and baggage he crossed the Mississippi river at or near Friars Point, Arkansas, and while we have had scattering reports of deaths in the family when run down, no one could confirm the report, and for that reason we will have to conclude that when the ferry boat left the Mississippi side of the river and landed in Arkansas, we must say that that is the last authentic account ever had of him or any of his offspring.

He was a man of a very peculiar type and had such singular ideas - was if you please, belonging to class peculiarly his own, and was not very much with his other brothers - unless in need of assistance - then he came, and when we had it, was off again until another opportunity to return on a like mission.
Nickname: Dock.

1880 Federal Census shows a granddaughter living with Weldon (Welden) Wilkins & wife:
Nett Markham. Nett was probably the daughter of Frances J. Wilkins & M.C. Markham (Marcum).

Clarke Co. MS Marriage Book C 1867-1873:
Jno. M. C. Marcum and Frances J. Wilkins, married on 3-7-1872,
Bondsman, Weldon Wilkins, married by R. D. Weems, JP.
