Notes for William Moody:
[Moody.FTW]
He was a sadler, came from Ipswich, Suffolk County, England to Ipswich,
MA in 1634, then to Newbury, Essex Co., MA in 1635.He was admitted a freeman and
was granted 92 acres of land.He and his three sons were of considerable
note, both in religious and civil affairs of the town.Almost all of the
early Moodys were distinguished by the maturity and activity of their
minds, their uncommon intelligence and their learned professions.
The emigrant, William, was probably related to John of Hartford, as
William's coat of arms hangs in Memorial Hall in Newburyport with those
of the first settlers of Newbury, and is like in detail to those
displayed by other members of the John line.
Taken from Coffin's History of Newbury and Biographical Sketches of the
Moody Family by Charles C. P. Moody, pub. 1847 by Samuel D. Drake of
Boston.
He left Southhampton, Apr 10, 1634, on the ship Mary & John, and landed at Boston at the end of May. With 100 others, he removed to Ipswich, MA and remained there for the winter. He was then induced to settle in the new town of Newbury and was admitted as a Freeman May 6, 1635. A Saddler, Furrier & Smith
