Hans Asmus Steffen * Jochen Peter Steffen * Heinrick W. Steffen Hans Asmus Steffen and Jochen "James" Peter Steffen arrived first in the US landing in New York Harbor aboard the ship: Bavaria : March 9, 1864 They made their way to Davenport, Iowa and later their broth Heinrick W. Steffen arrived aboard the Saxonia in New York Harbor May 15, 1865. The brother all married daughters of Marx Rohweder and Anna (Kock) Rohweder. Hans Asmus Steffen married: Lena Rohweder Jochen "James" Peter Steffen married: Kathrina Rohweder Heinrick "Henry" W. Steffen married: Margaretha Rohweder Hans and Lena farmed several years in the Traer, Iowa area and later moved to Marcus, Iowa (Cherokee County) where they raised their children and later retired to Remsen, Iowa (Plymouth County). The couple are buried in the Remsen, Iowa cemetary. Jochen and Kathrina raised their children in the Reinbeck, Iowa area.They are buried in the Reinbeck, Iowa Cemetary. Heinrick "Henry" W. Steffen wife died after childed birth of their son : William W. Steffen.Margaretha is buried in the West Union Cemetery ( 1 mile East of Traer) Tama County. Age: 24 Y 12 D - September 28, 1873 One child is also buried there with her: Clara Steffen. Clara died: August 27, 1872: Age 1 year 11 Days. In the 1870 Census: Amelia Steffen a daughter of Henry and Margaretha was born June 16, and was 5/12 years old. 1885 Iowa Census shows that Amelia and William H. are living with their Aunt and Uncle: Hans and Lena Steffen in Marcus Township, Cherokee, Iowa.I haven't been able to follow Amelia's where about after that, but know that William H. Steffen farmed in Clay County and married: Mary (Baccus)Steffen of Illinois and had 11 children.
