!RESIDENCE: Came to America about 1720. Had survey made for 200 acres in
Chester CO., PA in 1721 and received warrant for 204 acres on November 22, 1739

WILL: Dated 4/23/1760 in New London township, Chester Co., PA. Will Book 2,
April, 1760.
"In the name of God, Amen, the twenty-third day of April in the year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty, I, Samuel Steel of Thunder Hill in
the County of Chester and Province of Pennsylvania, being sick in body but of
sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner following:
"Imprimis, I commend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be deently
interred at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named and as to such
estate, real and personal, as I shall die possessed of, I devise and bequeath
the same in manner following:
"Item - I order all my just debts to be first paid.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my son Robert, and to my daughters Ruth and
Jean, and my son Samuel, the sum of seven shillings and six pence to each of
them.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my daughter Frances, the sum of twenty pounds
to be paid her at the end of two years after my decease, also a good bed tick
and bed clothes and her spinning wheel.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my son, Joseph, the sum of ten pounds to be
paid him at the end of three years after my decease.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my son James, a horse worth ten pounds, and a
saddle of forty shillings price.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my son Ninian, the sum of ten pounds, to be
paid three years after my decease.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my daughters Ann and Elizabeth, the sum of ten
pounds to each of them when they arrive at the age of twenty years, and if any
of my children now unmarried should die before their money comes due, that the
overplus money be divided in the manner following:
viz. - the fourth part to be equal between my two youngest daughters, Ann and
Elizabeth, and the remainder to be equally divided between my son Samuel and my
son James, but in case they, my son Samuel and my son James, can discharge all
just demands and keep the plantation, I will order the land to be qually
divided between them, each holding their respective dwellings and in this case,
I further will and order that my dear wife, Ann, have any room she thinks
proper in my son James' house with a reasonable maintenance during her
widowhood.
"Item - I devise and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife, Ann, whom I constitute
and ordain my only and sole executor of this my last will and testament, the
third of all my estate, real and personal, and I do utterly disannul all and
every former testaments, wills, and legacies, bequests, and executors by me
before this time named, willed, or bequeathed, ratifying and conferring this
and no toehr to be my last will and testament.
"In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal published in presence
of us: Gilbert Bouchanon, James McCormack, Andrew Gamble.

"In the name of God Amen, this twenty-eighth of September in the year of Our
Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty-five, I, Ninian Steel of the Township
of New lOndon in the County of Chester and Province of Pennsylvania, yeoman,
being sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks to God,
therefore and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is
appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in the manner and form following, that is to say -
"Primary and first of all, I five and recommend my soul to God who gave it, and
for my body, Iredommend it to the dust to be buried in a Christian like manner
atht he discretion of my executors ntohing doubting that but that I shall
receive the same again at the General Resurrection by the Almighty Power of God
and as touching such worldly goods or estate as it hath pleased God to bless me
with in this life, I give, devise, and divide the same in the following manner:
"Imprimis, I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife, Mary Steel, the
one-third part of all my personal estate after my funeral charges and legal
debts are paid.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son, Robert Steel, one seventh
part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved daughter, Martha Steel, one
seventh part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son, Samuel Steel, one seventh
part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved daughter, Susannah Steel, one
seventh part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son, Ninian Steel, one seventh
part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son, William Steel, one seventh
part of the remaining part of my estate.
"Item - I give and bequeath the last seventh part of my estate to the child my
wife is now with, so I allow an equal part of my estate to all my above
mentioned children.
"Item - I further will and allow that if God should remove by death one or more
of my above mentioned children, that their parts or part shall be equally
divided amongst the rest that are alive.
"Item - I further will and allow that if my children, any one or more of them,
should prove disobedient to their mother and to the advice of my executors that
then I allow a discretionary power in my executors to bind them or any one of
them to some bendficial Hade and their part willed above shall be equally
divided amongst those that continue and in a support to the family.
"Item - I further will and allow that if my wife should marry or be removed by
death, I order that the child she is now with, shall be provided for off the
whole head till it be four years old.
"I constitute, make, and ordain Jamaes Allen and William Alexander, both in
this County of Chester, the sole executors of this my last will and testament
and I do hereby disallow, revoke, and disnnul all and every other former
testament, wills, legaices, and executorys, by me at any time willed,
appointed, or bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my
last will and testament. In witness whereof I hereto set my hand and seal the
day and year above written.
