The best rectangular stadium in Australia was constructed in Brisbane, and opened in May 2003, when Newcastle Knights played Brisbane Broncos in a classic rugby league match, won by Newcastle. In other stadia, a surrounding athletic track separates the spectators from the game but in this stadium, spectators are close to the action in the arena. The stadium was a project of the Queensland Government, and was built for football codes that use a rectangular arena. The project cost $300million. It has 52,000 seating capacity in 62 rows on 3 tiers. For the Queensland Government the Project Manager was Peter Teys. Karen Louise Stehbens, a Quantity Surveyor, was Assistant Project Manager and was thrilled to attend the opening. Karen is a graduate of Qld. University of Technology. Karen is married to David Stehbens. Lineage: Karen Burnicle m David Ian son of Ian Robert s/o Robert John s/o Robert Gustave s/o Claus Johann Stehbens s/o Detlef Staeben s/o Frantz Stebens.
