Dr William Ellis Stehbens passed away June 15, 2005, aged 78. Until his death Bill lived with his wife, Jean (nee Raeside), in a rural valley near Wellington, New Zealand. Emeritus Professor Bill Stehbens was the founding professor and chairman of the Wellington School of Medicine’s Pathology Department. He held the position from 1974 until he retired in 1992. He was also the founding Director of the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research. Professor Stehbens MB [Syd], BS [Syd], DPhil [Oxon], MD [Syd], FRCPA, FRCPath, throughout his career, was dedicated to highly disciplined medical research. His academic qualifications, research, teaching and publication demonstrate his distinction as a "Man of Science". He continued to write and publish right up to his death, and just an hour after he died, a pleasing acceptance of his last paper was received. He made major contributions in Cardio-vascular and cancer research. Bill & Jean raised 5 children each of whom has achieved highly in fields of dentistry, orthodontics, education, forestry, & insurance.
