LIN STEHBENS opens B&T Hardware Store, Kingaroy, Q
"FORMER OWNER OFFICIALLY OPENS B&T STORE in KINGAROY" When Burgess & Turner Hardware refurbished their Kingaroy hardware store they invited former owner, Lindsley Stehbens to reopen it. He used bolt cutters to snip the chain across the front door. Lin Stehbens was thrilled to take part in the celebrations. Mr Stehbens' parents originally came to Kingaroy in 1905 and bought 4 allotments. His father, Ludwig Rudolph Stehbens built shops on the allotments and started his own plumbing business. In 1916, he turned one of the shops into a joinery works, which was managed by Harry Falkenbridge for many years. Stehbens and Falkenbridge furnished many of Kingaroy's churches and civic buildings. In 1919, Mr Stehbens snr bought shares in the South Burnett Importing Company, which was then a general store. The store later became Stehbens Brothers, and was operated by Lin and his older brother, Fred Stehbens. [Photo of L R Sehbens' Family also on this site]
