Julie Scott joins RAMSI in Solomon Islands: 2004
The Australian Federal Police have deployed officers and civilian staff as part of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands. Linda Apps (pictured) and Julie Scott (a Stehbens decendant) are two of the female staff sent to Honiara. The purpose of RAMSI is to assist Solomon Islands return to law and order after the fear and chaos of the ethnic conflict between Istabu Freedom Movement militia of Guadalcanal and the Malaita Eagle Force. As Linda Apps returned from a tour of duty, Julie Scott flew to Honiara, capital of Solomon Islands. Rev Ian Stehbens and Rev Margaret Stehbens have also been contributing to the rebuilding of just-peace in Solomon Islands through the establishment of peacebuilding training for national leaders, peace monitors and peace office staff. Honorable Simon Tonavi, Pastor Festus Maeluma, Ishmael Idu, Mary-Fay Maeni, Ataban Zama, Pastor Wilfred Billy, Paul Daokalia, Billy Guporo, James Bouro and Rev Eric Takila all trained under both Ian and Margaret in 2003 & 2004. In 2005, Ian was the key-note speaker on "An Integrated Approach to Peacebuilding" for a 2 week training conference conducted in Honiara by Pacific PeaceBuilding Initiatives in association with the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation & Peace of the Government of the Solomon Islands.
