Restoration of Manor House @ Blücher, Mecklenburg
The Stebens family has lived @ Blücher for more than 400 years. Some still do. While their history is still being researched in order to detail their story, we know they lived here as serfs, some as servants in this "Herrenhaus", some as artisans such as bricklayers (or maurer), others as farmers (or hufen) on the estate. What happened & what was decided in this house largely controlled their lives, at least in the local scheme of things. These are vital photographs for visualising our ancestral past. The current owners are renovating it. The new roof, added attic windows, and enlarged front entrance enhance the appearance of the home, and ensure that it survives for further generations. Apart from the church, it certainly is the largest building in this village, located a few kilometres east of the Elbe River and close to Boizenburg, Mecklenburg, Germany.
