"Sapphire" pioneers tourism to Lady Musgrave Is.

The "Sapphire" was the first vessel to regularly take tourists from Bundaberg to Lady Musgrave Island. The vessel was owned and operated by Eric Keppel Hansen. Once a lighthouse keeper, later a commercial fisherman, Keppel commenced this tourism venture to Lady Musgrave Island, one of the most southerly of Queensland's coral islands. Today, Lady Musgrave Island, a cay in the Bunker Group, is in the Mackay-Capricorn Section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. [Lineage: Eric Keppel Hansen was the grandson of Johannes Hansen who emigrated from Schurenhausen, Schleswig-Holstein to Brisbane in 1865. He was married to Esme Lister, the granddaughter of Caroline Wilmelmine Stehbens (or Stäben) who had emigrated from Wöhrden, Schleswig-Holstein to Maryborough, Queensland in 1865 also.]
