Both photos, taken in the 1953-54 at Blücher Mecklenburg, depict Paul Stebens working his small farm. Through Paul's life he had earned the respect of the community, having displayed courage in rescuing people from floods, as well as giving leadership in the local community. Paul married Bertha Mahnke and they had 2 children, Werner and Ilsa. After World War II, the partitioning of Germany into East and West, meant that for more than 40 years brother and sister were separated.
