As Robert Quebbemann, of Springfield Missouri USA, researched his family history, he became aware of the memory in the family that his Stebens ancestors had come from "Horst, Mecklenburg" in Germany. Finding our family website, Robert wondered whether there may have been any connection between his Stebens ancestor and the Stebens Family of Blücher, Mecklenburg. During summer 2005, Ian Stehbens of Australia was able to explore and photograph a “Horst, Mecklenburg". However, this small "Horst, Mecklenburg" located between Mölln and Sterley, is now known to be the wrong one. Recent research by Otfried Steben of Bad Doberan in Germany reveals that all of Robert Quebbemann’s ancestors are recorded in the church registers as "Stäben" or "Staeben" but not as "Steben", and they came from Horst, Alt Karin, Gerdshagen and Rosenhagen, a cluster of ssmall villages near Bad Doberan. No link has yet been established between our Stebens ancestors and those of Robert. However the building of our network of Stebens researchers has been special.
