Terry & Annette Stehbens owners of Four Square Grocery Store in Victoria Avenue, Redcliffe, Queensland were stunned and delighted to be recognized as conducting one of the best independent grocery stores in Queensland. Their Four Square Redcliffe Express was named Four Square Retailer of the Year in 2005. Terry & Anne were keen to share the credit with their daughter and son-in-law, Keisha and Paul Beagrie, who share the long hours and everyday grind of running a local supermarket.
“It’s wonderful and it’s the first time since the awards started in 1999 that a metropolitan store has won,” said Terry. The award was given to the family for their dedication and commitment to serving customer’s needs and fulfilling their obligations to the community. Annette worked for Woolworths for 17 years and Terry's background is in real estate. As well, Terry's dad was one of 3 Stehbens Brothers who ran a succesful retail butchery in Childers, Queensland for many years. During the past two years, most of the equipment in the store has been replaced, with a 100% increase in turnover. New shelving, delicatessen area, new freezers, new fruit and vegetable case, extra fridges, cold room, checkouts, flooring and air conditioning have all added to the ambience of the store. They have plans to extend the store to allow for an increase in the range of hardware and variety products.
