Alan John Stephens and his brother Evan James Stephens did not know until they were adults that their Dad had deliberately changed the spelling of his surname. Their father, James Albert Stephens was actually born as James Albert Stehbens, son of Claus Johann and Ottilie Stehbens of Bundaberg. Evan James Stephens (he preferred to be called Jim Stephens) married Doreen Bellden in 1951.
