Pehr and Catharina escaped the Bishop Hill Colony with the aid of local farmers 18 months after he arrived. They were married in Galesburg, where he worked as a blacksmith until he could afford to buy a farm near Galva.
Almost 100 years later Mina Yocum and Glen Barrer realized that the local farmers had been Glen's ancestors.
