About 1925 Lizzie Kate Steppe went to the mental institution at Staunton VA,
she had 'nervous spells'. Her children went to live with Grandma DePriest and
husband Cleveland traveled to do bridge work. She stayed at the institution
the rest of her life, working in the cafeteria making salads. In the summer,
she would visit and stay with children that had married and settled. This
photo shows Kate in front of Alice and Gordon Steppe's house.
