STEVENS/GAULT FamilyUpdated September 6, 2000 | The descendants of the GAULT/SNYDER and STEVENS/SHAW lines are numerous, many famous, all brave and dedicated Americans. The ancestors of these families were among the earliest immigrants to the Americas. Many were veterans of the Revolutionary War. Most of theSTEVENS lineage originated in England, Ireland, Scotland and includes a bit of African American heritage. Coming to America in the late 1600’s., they played a very important part in the settlement of the States of Rhode Island, Virginia, Illinois, South Carolina and Missouri (St. Louis Co.>Jefferson Co.>Crawford Co.). STEVENS ancestors fought for this country’s independence, served on both sides in the Civil War and served with extreme bravery in World War II. Most of this line’s ancestors were farmers. Many were merchants. All played an important role in the establishment, defense and growth of this country.
