Peggy Moore a Daughter of James Moore and a Creek Indian woman wasborn Creek Nation (Alabama)In 1836 the Creeks were forced to leave their lands in Alabama for the Indian Territory.James Moore, after living with the creeks for more that 39 years seems to have come to the conclusion that his children, who apparently associated them selves with their Creek ancestry more that their white ancestry, would be better off amongst their Indian Kinthan a mixed blood in a white community. He encourages his Children to move to the west. He first sent his oldest son John P Moore to the Indian Territory in Sept 1836.After John arrived in the west he wrote several letters to his father concerning the conditions he found in the Indian Territory. Some of the conditions he found were not what James had expected. Searching for an alternative to the Indian Territory, James dispatched his Youngest Son, Jackson to accompany his two sisters, Catherine (Katy) (Caty and Peggy with their families to the Republic of Texas. James oldest daughter and her husband followed a few days latter. Jackson's party traveling in wagons left Alabama in the spring of 1837.They arrived in the Shreveport, Louisiana area in August of 1837 where most of the party fell sick. Catherine's daughter, Lizor died and a week latter her brother Jackson died. Catherine and Peggy continued on until they reached an area (Now Smith County) in East Texas where they set out to build a new home.On the treak from Alabama to Texas Pegy worte a letter to her Father from Mossissippi. Peggy Moore was probably first married to a man by the name of Mclemore . On the 1857 Creek pay roll she has three children in her Family, James and Lyman and Noble McLemore. However onher claim of remuneration for her move from Alabama to Texas in 1838 and from Texas to the Indian Territory in1849, Peggy lists James , and Lyman as Moore.Peggy second marriage was to Monty Kennard who was the Principle Chief to the Creek Nation during the Civil War.
After Texas became a state, more and more people begin to come to Texas. The real reason for Peggy and Catherine and Nancy leaving Texas is not known. But it may have been that they were not comfortable with their new neighbors and decided to move on. Around 1850Peggy and Catherine and their Families continued their journey to The Creek Nation.Moses half brother Lyman Moore married a Choctaw woman and became a trader in the Choctaw Nation, He died in 1889. James married a full blood Creek woman and settled near Stidham.James was an officer in the CreekRegiment during the Civil War where he was killed in battle.James and his wife Susie had a son named Albert that grew up in the Stidham Area. Albert's descendents live in the Tulsa Area. No record has been found explaining the fate ofMoses other half brother, Buck.
Peggy Moore Kennard probably lived near Meno, in the Creek Nation. She probably died there between 1865 and 1890.
