Notes for Sarah Coleman:|
See Jim Calvert, op. cit., for the name Coleman, which he notes is possibly right, but unproved.
From Bill Lay: Will of Sarah Beam proved 2nd Feb 1820. In Will Book #8, Page# 15, Apt #10 File #62: Gives son Solomon "all Right and title to Dower in the Real or Landed Estate of Jesse Beam." Solomon is to be guardian of two youngest children, Albert and Jesse until they reach majority. Money from the personal property is to be divided among Albert and Jesse after debts are paid. Solomon is to take care of William S. who is an "ediot and cannot take care of himself."
Except for Sarah, children's birth dates were estimated from information contained in the probate papers of Jesse Beam. Sarah's children as I show them in the notes are from Bill Lay.
Of Sarah Coleman, Doris Peirce, <email@example.com>, op. cit., writes in July, 2003 in answer to a query about Indian blood, "I've always been told that we had Cherokee & Creek Indian from the Meador family. My connection is through my great grandmother, Louise Meador. Her grandmother, Sarah Naomi Beam, was said to be nearly 6 ft tall, and had many features of the eastern Indian. My grandfather resembled her very much and looked like the Indian nickel (facial features). If this is true, the connection would absolutely have to be made in the Carolinas. Sarah N. Beam's mother was Sarah Coleman. I have heard several reports of finding Cherokee connection in the Coleman family. That may be the place to look. Doris"
