Jesse Stephens was born about 1801 in Burke County, Georgia. Jesse is a direct descendent of THOMAS STEPHENS and MARY HALL. Jesse's family moved to Laurens County, Georgia in 1807. Jesse married Mary (Polly) Dykes in Laurens County in 1821. In the late 1820's Jesse and Polly moved to Gadsden County, Florida where they lived until 1850. Jesse sold his land and moved to Jackson County, Florida where there was a close STEPHENS/DYKES connection. He lived there until his death. The children of Jesse and Polly are: 1) Ebenezer, born 1824-1/4/1894, Decatur County, Georgia 2) Matilda Caroline, 8/10/1829-11/26/1910, Jackson County,Fl. 3) Amanda J., 1832-1895, Jackson County, Fl. 4) Jacob, 12/1832-1905, Jackson County, Fl. 5) Mary, 1834, d.?, Jackson County, Fl. 6) Julia, 1838-1902?, Jackson County, Fl. 7) Amaziah, 1840-1860, Jackson County, Fl. 8) Jesse, 4/18/1842-9/7/1901, Calhoun County, Fl. 9) Mahala, 1844, d.?, Jackson County, Fl. All of Jesse's children, with the exception of Ebenezer, moved to, lived and died in Jackson County, Florida. Principal families in Jesse's line include: DYKES....HARRISON.... BIRD....ELKINS....JOHNSON....FEWELL....LODGE....ELKINS....MOORE....CONNELL....PEACOCK....POPPELL....VICKERS.... MAXWELL....BELL.... and others. |
