CORPORAL STITT IS IN HOSPITAL; HAS BEEN GASSED
Corporal J. Howard Stitt, of this city, is in a military hospital in France recovering from the effects of being gassed while in action.Mrs. Stitt, his wife, Wednesday received a letter telling of his condition, and it is expected that he will recover.
Corporal Stitt had been a runner for his battalion, one of the most dangerous assignments in the army.His duty was to bring messages back from the trenches to battalion headquarters and often he was exposed to the enemy fire.He was gassed in battle during October.

J. Howard Stitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Stitt and a former resident of Middletown, Monday night was elected worshipful master of Standard Lodge, F & A M, of Monroe.Mr. Stitt is one of the youngest members of this section of the state to be elected to that office.He is a former World War veteran serving in Company I.Mr. Stitt has lived in Monroe for the past five years and is connected with the Texas Oil Company, for which he is agent for Rockland County.

Needn't Worry About His Pay
Corporal John H. Stitt, of Company I, need not worry about business affairs while he is on the border fighting for Uncle Sam.Mr. Stitt, who is a salesman in the employ of of the National Biscuit Company, has received the following letter from the president of the company:
Dear Sir:
We are advised that you are connected with the militia and that you have responded to the call of your state and the government.
This to advise you that during your absence under such call and while you continue in good standing in the service, your name will be retained upon the payroll of the National Biscuit Company; and, until further notice, your present salary will be paid to such party as you may designate or will be placed to your credit on the company's books and paid to you upon your request.
Further, your present position, or one carrying an equal amount of salary, will be provided for you on your return.

STITT-VAN KEUREN NUPTIALS CELEBRATED ON THURSDAY
Groom Is Now in U.S. Service at Camp Wadsworth; Rev. Dr. Wight Performs Ceremony
A quiet but pretty wedding took place Thursday evening, at 8 o'cloc, at the home of the bride, 8 Houston avenue, when Miss Bela Leota, daughter of the late Kittie May Palmer and Henry S. VanKeuren, became the bride of John Howard Stitt, now acting supply sergeant at the Division Stockade at Camp Wadsworth, S.C.The ceremony, which was witnessed by only the members of the immediate families, was pefromed by Rev. Dr. E. VanDyke Wight, pastor of the Webb Horton Memorial Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Stitt are members.
The bride was becomingly attired in a gown of white crepe de chine and she carried a shower bouquet of sweet peas.Her traveling suit was of "sammy" brown and she wore a hat to match.Following the ceremony, the couple left on a brief wedding trip by automobile.
The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Stitt, of 10 Wilkes avenue, and before answering the call of his country was salesman for the National Biscuit Company and had made many friends throughout his territory.He is a member of Hoffman Lodge, F. & A.M. and the Jr. O.U.A.M.The bride is a graduate of Middletown High School, being the valedictorian of the class of 1915.She is a teacher in the Sunday school of the Webb Horotn Church and active in the other branches of church work.The couple have been popular among the younger set and their many friends extend hearty congratulations.
