Where do I start? Well, 1066 and the Battle of Hastings would be a good starting point for my ancestors and those of my husband. We both come from illustrious families with descendancy and connections from the royalty and nobility of England to blacksmiths, agricultural labourers, the illigitimate, murderers, a china painter & decorator, mariners, the founder of a Classic Horse Race, the transported, recusants, the executed and, not forgetting my ancestor who led the last charge at the Battle of Waterloo - we have them all!Our family have come a long way from my husband's illustrious ancestor Sir Robert de St. Leger who, (according to family legend & Burke's Peerage) supported my ancestor William, Duke of Normandy (better known as "William the Conqueror") when he stumbled on the beach when the Normans landed at Pevensey Bay, to Roger de Tosny, Standard Bearer to William the Conqueror (and another of my direct ancestors) to the Jane St. Leger who married "beneath" her and was disowned by the family and my ancestor Christopher Heveningham who "lost" his families fortune and his wife's inheritance. Now, we come to my generation and that of my children. It is for them and their off-spring that I have compiled this web-page but I hope other researchers interested in the same families might also benefit from my research. My main interests are:=================HEVENINGHAM from Heveningham, Suffolk & Ketteringham, Norfolk.HEVENINGHAM from Staffordshire/Lichfield/BirminghamSAXELBY from Abbots Bromley/Kings Bromley, Staffordshire.STANLEY from Cheshire/Elford, Staffs.de ARDERNE from Elford, Staffs.BROOKE, from Haselour, Elford, Staffs.MOYLE, from Eastwell, KentBOWES from Elford, Staffs.SHELTON from SuffolkST.
