Tracing the generations from Prince Edward, Amherst, Pittsylvania, Campbell, Bedford and Rockbridge Counties and the City of Lynchburg, Virginia from 1784 with the birth of Stephen Burch who reportedly lived to be 114 years old. The father of fifteen children noted for longevity, his most notable son was James Marshall Burch of Civil War fame. James M. Burch was an officer in the CSA and was wounded, captured and escaped several times during his tour of duty. He was a member of the Garland-Rodes Camp and served as dignitary in post-war celebrations for years receiving military honors at his death. He was presented an elaborate and ornate walking cane by the U.S. Ambassador from Mexico. He died at 102 years of age. | |
