OBITUARY.
Mrs. Katherine(sic) Smith was born June 17, 1833, in Ashland County, O., and
departed this life August 7, 1905, aged 72 years, 1 month and 20 days.She wasunited in marriage to Nelson Smith in Ashland County, O., September26, 1853.October 16, 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Smith located in De Kalb County, Ind., near Newville.After several years they removed to Iowa and latercame to Hicksville, where they continued to resided till death called sister Smith from labor to reward.By this union eight children were born, all surviving except the second child.Mrs. Smith became a Christian eight years ago and unitedwith the United Brethren Church and trueto her God until her death.Sister Smith was an optimist.Always looking on the bright and cheerful side of life.In her life and character she sought the companionship of the pure and good. Before her she placed noble ideals and exalted examples. The love of her life she gave to her family.Home was her kingdom.In it she ruled as a noble queen.She has left us, but the sweet aroma of lovelylife falls upon us.Her death was not her loss, but consummation of good life.Her death leaves an only sister, husband and son, three daughters, fifteen grandchildren and a large circle of friends to mourn her departure. Although long and sorely afflicted shemanifested rare patience andfrequently expressed her resignation to the will of God.

John Wesley Smith died Thursday morning, December 23, 1915.He was born in Ashland County, Ohio, July8, 1864(sic).Aug. 11, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Mamie Brooks of St. Joe, Ind.To this union were born five children.He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren,also an aged father, two brothers and three sisters.Mr. Smith was an honored and respected member of the Presbyterian church of Hicksville where his wife and son also members.He died a triumphant death with his faith strong in Jesus Christ.Bro. Smith will be greatly missed in the church circle as well as in the wider circle of town and community. Funeral services were held at Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock, Dec. 26, by Pastor Gordon.The interment was at Forest Home Cemetery. (Note: he was born in 1854 not 1864 asstated in obit) |

OBITUARY-SMITH Bird Smith, son of Nelson and Catherine Smith, was born in DeKalb county, Ind., November 3, 1863.On November 3, 1883 he was united in marriage with Miss Mattie Snyder.For the past ten years had been in the employof various construction companies, which necessitated his location in different parts of the country, but Hicksville was his home.He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and also of the Pythian Sisters.He was one of the members of the Mens Bible class of the U.B. Sunday School. This relationwas one of mutural helpfulness.His entusiasm aided in bringing others into the classand his own lips bore testimony of the good influence the class exerted over him.Through apparently strong yet his health had been failing for the past four months.About two weeks ago his condition became alarming to his friends, and rapidlybecame worse.He was taken to the Rome City hospital, Rome, N.Y., on Thursday, July7, where he died the following Sunday morning at seven o'clock at the age of 46 years, 8months and 7days.His second oldest sister, Dora, preceded him in death, dying in infancy.His devoted mother passed from earth five years ago.He leavesa wife, father, 3 brothers, John, Owen and Frank, three sisters, Mrs. Gilbert, of Fostoria, Mrs. Murphy, of Minster, O., and Mrs. Grier, of Auburn, his wife's mother, Mrs. Snyder, whom he greatlyloved, and appreciated her kindnesses, who comforted him as his own mother, also a much loved aunt, Mrs. Mary Culler, and a large circle of other relatives and friends.His cheerfulness and disposition, big heartedness and friendliness toward all, made him many friends.He practiced the goodphilosophy of the saying that he who would have friendss must show himself friendly.Hewas a good provider for his home and always took pleasure in making his wife comfortable and happy. His funeral service wasconducted from the U.B. Church, Wednesdayafternoon by Rev. J. F. Miller, assisted by rev. Lilly.The orders of Knights of Pythias, and Pythian Sisters attended the church service in a body.The K. of P. Lodge had charge at the cemetery where theritual of the order was carried out. |

This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of June...... between Lewis Miller and Barbary his wife of the Township of Springfield County of Fayette & State of Pennsylvania they being Heirs at Law of Christian Bungard of Springfield Twp.
